HOW TO USE THE SITE:

This is my personal Website for my Collection of Old License Plates from Argentina. It has three well-defined sections: in one section, you can read the "DESCRIPTIONS" and general information about the different types of plates, including some illustrative photos. It is divided into: HOME Page, PORCELAIN Plates, ALUMINUM, STEEL Plates, PICTURE Plates, OFFICIAL, EVA PERÓN, and OTHERS. Each one contains a brief summary and description of each group of plates. I have written the texts in several stages, trying to reflect rather my personal experience than official information on each topic. Unfortunately, there is not much written material available. For example, I have been searching for information in the Library of Congress of the Province of Buenos Aires, in La Plata, and all I found was a few old books referring to plates from that province. Much of the information I include here is information I have heard on my many tours, especially from older people. The few excerpts from some articles I summarize are those kindly sent to me by other colleagues. Over the years, I've also tried to weave my own theories, based on the plates I've accumulated or seen from other collectors. Don't take the descriptions as absolute truth; pieces always emerge that are exceptions to these "unwritten rules". If the reader finds errors or would like to send me any interesting information, it's more than welcome; please. Contact me!

From the DESCRIPTION pages you can access to another part of the Site which is "PHOTO ALBUM" or "PHOTO GALLERY" of LARGE-FORMAT PLATES, either searching for a specific photo or an entire category. There you'll find all the large-format plates I have in the collection. Within the PHOTO ALBUM's categories, there are PORCELAINS, ALUMINUM, STEEL, PICTURE Plates, PROVINCIALS and OFFICIAL Plates. Each of them is further subdivided into PROVINCES (except for OFFICIAL Plates), once there is at least one piece in the collection from a given Province. In the case of PICTURE Plates, they are listed for 9 different provinces, which are the ones I have, although they were actually issued in 11 of them.(I hope to obtain at least one from Misiones and one from Chaco, which I don't have, and thus include those provinces as well). In the case of the OFFICIAL category, it is subdivided into National, Provincial, and Municipal Plates, or by District only.

In the DESCRIPTIONS section, I also included two more categories: EVA PERÓN and OTHERS. Without any political intent, I believe the plates of Eva Perón and President Perón deserve additional comments, since their names were reflected in plates, circulated in several provinces, and have an interesting story to tell.

The "OTHERS" category leads us to a second GALLERY OF SMALL PLATES, which include nice plates for carriages, dogs, bicycles, street vendors, etc. I have over 1.400 pieces of these types of small plates. You can also see plates in this collection grouped into: ORNAMENTAL, PORCELAIN, ALUMINUM and STEEL, EVA PERON, and OTHER. Within these sections, there are several subcategories: VARIOUS CARRIAGES, PRIVATE BICYCLES, DELIVERY BICYCLES and TRICYCLES, HEARSES, PORTERS AND HAND-DRIVEN or DELIVERY CARTS, DOGS, AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY.

Although strictly speaking the Picture Plates, many of them Official, Provincial and those of Eva Perón, should correspond to the category of STEEL PLATES, I have divided them in this way, (either in the "DESCRIPTIONS" or in the "PHOTO GALLERY" of large format plates), for a matter of better organization.

From this page or from HOMEPAGE you can access to the PHOTO ALBUM of LARGE SIZE PLATES. As I acquire new pieces, I upload photos of 20 new plates per page. Page 1 contains the latest acquisitions. There are 145 pages to browse.

The LARGE SIZE PLATE PHOTO GALLERY is very versatile to use and can be explored in several ways:

* By the Category:  - Choose a CATEGORY from the Photo Album and then a Province in this category.
                            - You can view a maximum of 20 photos per page, sorted by year.

* By Province: - You can view license plates from all categories together, sorted by year.
                     - Choose a Province first from the left column or from
HOMEPAGE.

* By Drop-down list: - Choose a City, Town, or District of Buenos Aires from the top right table.
                              - Click and view the license plates in the collection.

* By Search Engine:  - Click on ADVANCED SEARCH in the left column, or
                               - While in the Photo Album, click in SEARCH and enter:
                               - Any Word or Number.
                               - If there is a match, one or more plates containing the entered info will be displayed.
                               - For example, entering the word "Carlos", will display all plates that contain the word
Carlos: Carlos Tejedor, San Carlos Sud, San Carlos de Bariloche....

* By Keywords: - Go to SEARCH  in the Photo Album and choose:
                       - Any keyword from the list below the search table.
                       - They are displayed by province, category, patent number from 1 to 9, etc.

Please note:

- Las fotos de las patentes en el Álbum de Fotos de Patentes Grandes se muestran en un tamaño muy reducido. Haciendo Click sobre cada foto, se la puede apreciar en un tamaño bastante mayor.

- The plate photos in the Large-Size Plates Photo Album are displayed at a very small size. Clicking on each photo will show it in a much larger size. The enlarged photos have a fairly exact size ratio, meaning they maintain their proportions

- In some cases, a plate that doesn't match the search term may slip through when you use "SEARCH". While the program's search engine handles searches very well, there may be words that are common to groups of different plates.

- If you use the search engine, do not enter accents; the letter "ñ" is accepted.
